This notice explains how the Employment Lawyers Group Northern Ireland (“ELG”, “we”) uses personal information collected through this website and in running the group. Last updated 21 October 2026.
Who we are
ELG is an association of employment lawyers in Northern Ireland, run by a voluntary committee elected each year. For data protection purposes, ELG is the controller of the personal information described here. You can contact us at employmentlawyersgroupni@gmail.com.
What we collect and why
- Contact form: your name, email and message, so that we can reply. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests in responding to enquiries.
- Membership: your name, email, organisation, profession, membership category and year of admission or call, to administer your membership and subscriptions. Lawful basis: the membership arrangement between you and ELG.
- Event bookings: your name, email, organisation, membership status and any dietary or access requirements you choose to give us, to manage the event. Any access or dietary information is used only for that event. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests in running events, and your consent for any requirements you share.
- Mailing list: your name and email, to send notices of seminars and events. Lawful basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Who we share it with
Your information is seen only by members of the ELG committee who need it. We use a small number of service providers: our website host, Google (for our email account and for reCAPTCHA, which protects our forms from spam) and GoCardless (to collect membership subscriptions). Where an event is held jointly with another organisation or at a venue, we may share attendee names with them for that event. We do not sell your information or use it for anyone else’s marketing.
How long we keep it
We keep membership records while you are a member and for up to two years after. Event booking details are kept for up to one year after the event. Enquiries are kept for as long as needed to deal with them. Mailing list details are kept until you ask to be removed.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to object to or restrict how we use it. To unsubscribe from the mailing list or make any request, email employmentlawyersgroupni@gmail.com. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
